Skincare Quiz
Recreating Lush’s in-store skincare consultation experience in a digital format
High-level problem statement:
Lush products can be tricky. With unique names, multi-purpose products and “naked” versions of your typical skincare products, finding what you need without the guidance of a Lush expert is hard.
My Role:
Lead User Interface Designer and Supporting User Experience Designer.
Additional tasks and duties:
Facilitated brainstorming sessions with cross-functional teams
Supported the research team by attending interviews and user testing sessions
Built the entire quiz from scratch on our third-party quiz building platform (Jebbit).
Research and interviews
As part of the discovery phase, interviews with retail staff were conducted across multiple stores in North America to better understand how customers shop for skincare products in-store. There was also a collaborative market research phase where team members from different departments got together and analyzed what other businesses are doing. We gathered information and started to brainstorm our approach.
A snapshot of our collaborative approach - analyzing what people liked and disliked from other online quizzes and annotating pain points along the way.
Question development and flow
Developing the question flow was a collaborative approach between multiple teams as so many parts of the Lush experience had to come together and be taken into consideration like ingredients, benefits, life-shelf of products, cross-category promotion, among many, many others.
Art direction and visual approach
Introduce and reinforce our brand values through captivating photography showing REAL skin and the texture and beautiful colours of our products. In-use shot images and skin close-ups were used to demonstrate this throughout the quiz.
Question development snapshot
The art direction was inspired by the photography style used in our product shots
